These beautiful German dresses can vary in many ways from the new Drindls that you find on the market today.
Most of them still have a tight-fitting bodice that is attached to the full skirt however some of these dresses look a little like a modern day sundress with the tank top upper that drops into a long straight or “a line” skirt. There is no seam at the waist like there is on the more modern dresses. There are also some older dirndls that have long, full/puffy sleeves that end in a thick or ruffled cuff at the wrist. These are sometimes decorated with pretty buttons and contrasting piping material.
The embroidery on the Vintage Dirndls is very much the same as the newer German dresses. On the dresses that are not embroidered the material was created with vibrant patterns such as stripes or polka dots. Typically a lace blouse or crop top is worn under a German Dirndl however they were not worn under the long sleeved versions. A pretty apron was still a must, however.
These beautiful dresses are worn for Oktoberfest celebrations, Bavarian Trachten dances, parties, club meetings, weddings as well as many other occasions. They are also worn in German restaurants by both the waitress and the hostess. You may also remember this style of clothing being worn on “The Sound of Music”.
Regardless of whether you like the look of the old or the new dirndls we have something for everyone! We carry a variety of colors, shapes, and styles to fit just about anybody’s needs. Due to the nature of our Vintage Dirndls sizes and styles are limited.
